The Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) in partnership with Asante Aviation has announced plans to expand domestic air travel, a move aimed at strengthening tourism, trade, and regional connectivity.
The collaboration will focus on opening more domestic routes across Uganda, making it easier for both international and local travelers to reach key tourism hotspots such as national parks, cultural sites, and remote towns.
Benefits of the Partnership
- Boosting Tourism: Easier access to parks like Murchison Falls, Kidepo Valley, and Bwindi Impenetrable Forest.
- Economic Growth: Domestic air transport is expected to increase business mobility and trade.
- Job Creation: The aviation expansion is projected to create opportunities for pilots, engineers, and support staff.
- Regional Integration: Strengthened transport networks will position Uganda as a tourism hub in East Africa.
UTB’s Vision
The Uganda Tourism Board says the expansion of domestic air travel will help unlock Uganda’s tourism potential by reducing long road travel times and encouraging more visitors to explore beyond Kampala and Entebbe.
Industry Reactions
Tourism operators and hospitality businesses have welcomed the partnership, calling it a timely boost ahead of Uganda’s preparations for hosting the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
