Prime Minister Nabbanja commissions 398 Health Centre IIIs across Uganda.

Uganda’s Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja has officially commissioned 398 newly upgraded Health Centre IIIs across the country, in what government calls a major step toward improving rural healthcare access.

The health facilities, spread across different districts, are expected to bring essential services closer to underserved communities, reduce travel time for patients, and ease congestion in regional hospitals.

Key Objectives of the Project

  • Improve Maternal Health: Each facility is equipped to handle maternity services and reduce maternal mortality.
  • Expand Outpatient Care: Communities will now access treatment for common illnesses without traveling long distances.
  • Boost Staffing and Infrastructure: The government says more nurses, midwives, and clinical officers have been deployed.

Nabbanja’s Remarks

While commissioning the facilities, Nabbanja emphasized the government’s commitment to universal health coverage:

“Every Ugandan, regardless of where they live, deserves access to quality healthcare.”

Community Reactions

  • Residents welcomed the development, saying it will save lives, especially in rural areas.
  • Health experts, however, urged the government to ensure consistent drug supply and proper facility maintenance.
