Bobi Wine Defies Police Blockade, Holds Massive Rally in Mityana

Mityana, Uganda | 6 October 2025 National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, known as Bobi Wine, drew thousands of supporters to Mityana on Monday.

Police had set up several roadblocks to stop his convoy. But Bobi Wine found another way. He rode on a boda boda and entered the town to meet his waiting supporters. The crowd cheered loudly as he arrived at the venue.

Earlier in the day, police arrested several NUP members. They said the group had disrupted traffic and refused to follow security guidelines. Tear gas filled some parts of Mityana before calm returned.

When Bobi Wine finally reached the stage, he thanked the people of Mityana for standing firm.

“They thought they could stop us,” he said. “But nothing can stop a determined people. This struggle is for freedom and justice.”

He spoke about his 11-point manifesto, focusing on free education, better healthcare, and ending corruption. Bobi Wine also condemned the arrests and violence against his supporters. He called it “a sign of fear from those in power.”

The rally ended peacefully. Supporters sang and waved NUP flags as Bobi Wine promised to visit every district in Uganda.

“We shall reach every village,” he said. “Our message is clear change is coming.”
